Hard Top Rain Gutter Fix

I think I know who wrote this but I am not 100% sure.  SO it is anonymous until I hear otherwise.  This is a great suggestion, and I believe I have seen the result.  It is very nice looking.  The only drawback is the inability to use a roof rack, but hey most of us don't use them anyway!

I found the best product( in my opinion) for the fiberglass roof rain gutters
leaking and cracking on a fj40. I cleaned out the gutters with a wire wheel
and got all the loose and excess fiberglass strands down to solid material.
I used rust mort on a couple of small rust areas and then used polyurethane
for the fix. Not just any polyurethane!!!! I used "pourable" one part
Vulkem brand poly urethane. This is a gray self leveling pourable( a little
thicker than honey). I parked the cruiser as level as possible then poured
slowly the urethane around and moved it with a popsicle stick into areas i
wanted to be sure was penetrated. I had masked off the roof with masking
tape and moved the urethane up to the tape line for a clean transition . It
takes a while to set up but you can speed up the curing and skin over
process by misting soapy water onto it. The polyurethane takes several days
to completely cure and never cures to perfect hardness, That's good- it will
take lots of flex and has a 300%+ elongation - it will stretch if needed.
This Polyurethane is similar to the material holding your windshield in
place on most new vehicles. It will not crack or peel and can take the
sun. - This" Vulkem polyurethane sealant" is manufactured by the mameco
corp. Stay away from silicone based materials as they do not paint well and
will not adhere to dissimilar materials as well as Polyurethane. I can email
a picture of the tube and my application if anyone would like.  I chose the
pourable polyurethane that is used on airport runway joints, sidewalks,
driveway joints etc. It works and takes paint for a factory look when done.
( don't paint it too soon) You can't even see mine when your looking at the
cruiser. I bought mine at an industrial caulk supply center.
