Replacing Lug Bolts
Here's what's needed:
- remove wheel
- remove caliper (there may be a way to do this without disconnecting the brake
line?)
- remove locking hub cover
- remove snap ring on outer end of axle shaft
- remove locking hub body
- remove wheel bearing lock nut, locking tab washer, wheel bearing adjusting
nut, and claw washer
- remove outer wheel bearing
- remove hub and rotor
- press (or hammer) out what's left of broken lug
- press (or hammer using a brass drift) in new lug
- reassemble
If your front wheel bearings haven't been repacked recently this would be a good
time to do this. If so, be sure to do both sides of the vehicle. Also check the
condition of your rotors and replace the brake discs if needed.
